Importance of Animals Rights
Animals, being conscious and responsive, have some similarities with human beings. There are many pet owners in this world who would quickly tell you that animals are unique and they are precious in their own identity, and they should certainly be loved and nurtured. There are people who think that animals cannot feel pain or because their intelligence is lower than human beings that they should not be given the care and nourishment that most pet owners generously give to them.
Animals deserve life, and there are some groups that do not give these rights and privileges to them. Some groups believe that humans should be above all animals and there is a moral distinction between them. There are also those who don’t believe that animals feel, sense, or experience like humans do and that they should not be give a status equal to humans but lower than them. These belief systems came from a wrong sense of righteousness and entitlement. If people will just overcome their biases, then it all boils that to animals having their own rights in this world.
Animals should also be given the right to live in a clean and safe place. We het a glimpse of the horrors that human beings can do to our natural ecosystem when we find lush rainforests reduced to flat plains and beautiful coral reefs becoming ocean wastelands. If we destroy the environment for human gain, then we are also destroying the only places which animals can call home. That is why animal rights and the green movement are closely linked to each other.
There are animals or animal parts that are being used for products that is to be sold in the market and this is one display of human greed that is gaining popularity. Because of what they can get out of it, animals mortality is completely disregarded by many of these people. For example, elephants are killed for their tusks, sharks are killed for their fins, and other people who kill animals because of the commodity they get from it. A dollar sign has now replaced the basic rights of animals to live. Since animals have a right to live free of suffering at the hands of humans, it is important that we consider viable alternatives to animal products.
Animal rights activists are very strong in what they believe in. Below are some of these rights that animals rights advocates believe in.
Animals have consciousness and should not be compared to machines or objects. Animals also have interests. Human beings should be responsible to respect interests of animals. Animals should not be exploited by human beings. Treating animals as objects disregards their rights by human beings. Human beings should not kill animals.
It takes volumes to really cover the scope of animals rights.
